Is it just me...

or is anybody else having trouble uploading photos to blogger? I was FINALLY going to post an 'all things summer' post, but none of the pictures will upload. And where's the fun in blogging with no pictures?? I can't even change my font or anything, it just inserts the code. Weird.

Happy Birthday Lucy

Well, yesterday was Lucy's 6th birthday! We had a wonderfully fun day, and she was so excited to finally be 6! I went to the store early in the morning to get all the stuff we needed for her panacakes (that's how we say it here, not pancakes), eggs, bacon, peaches, pears, OJ, milk, and toast breakfast that she requested. While I was gone, Lucy woke up, ran into our room, and yelled 'I'm 6!!!' to an empty bed. Poor girl. But, she found Jordan, and yelled it again. It started off a wonderful day. Then, while shopping I realized I locked my keys in the car. So much for a nice breakfast before Jordan went to work! So, Jordan, Lucy, and Josiah came to rescue Mahri and I. The rest of the day went off without a hitch, though, and we were so happy to have a nice day with our new 6 year old. She got a Strawberry Shortcake doll from Grandma and Grandpa California, a magnetic paper doll set from Grandma & Papa, and a Razor Scooter from Mom & Dad. She loved it all yelling "I'm so happy it's my birthday!" after opening each present. And she played with those all day long! It was a great day! Happy happy birthday Lucy!!

Rainbows!

On Saturday we had Mahri's birthday party. I had a blast planning and carrying out the theme. Well, by 'I', what I really mean is Brie and I carried out this super fun rainbow themed 1st birthday party. Once again, not in order because uploading them always comes out backwards. Darn it. I'll have to remember that before I upload next time.

I love the tradition of the one year old getting their own birthday cake! It is always such a funny mess. And I love that Mahri is covered in Rainbows!

The 6 layer Rainbow Cake. I love how it turned out, but for a really pretty looking one, go to my inspiration here.

Getting that mouth ready to blow out the candle!

Pretty little One Year Old Girl!

The table doesn't look that exciting, but it was. And on the side is the Pin the Cloud on the Rainbow game.

The Rainbow Arch. Maybe my favorite part. I don't really know what it was for, but it looked fabulous!
The Rainbow Bean Bag Toss. Oh yes, I totally made this. And Brie made the adorable bean bags. We work so well together!

Mahri Walks!

I promise that Mahri does occasionally wear clothes...just not when I'm taking video or pictures.

Happy Birthday Mahri!!

My baby turned one today! It was a somewhat uneventful day, in birthday terms. But Mahri started walking!! And I'm not talking a step or two as she tumbles to the ground. I mean full on walking. She has to be encouraged to do it, but once she's up, she just keeps going. So fun! Yay Mahri! Love you girly!!!

By the way, I didn't get it on the camera, but she was a PRO candle blower-outer! Good job M!

Memorial Day Fun

We had lots of fun at City of Rocks on Memorial Day with the Papa & Grandma, Uncle Joseph, Aunt Lisa, Lyndi, Brooklyn, Emma, and Sadie.
Climbing the rocks really brought out the adventurer in Josiah, and that was really really fun to see! We bbq'd hot dogs and s'mores and climbed and hiked and laughed. A good day!
Pics are in no particular order because I hate having to rearrange them once they are uploaded...

Oh Lucy

Lucy decided it would be fun to get some silly puddy wet. Yes, with water. So it got sticky and all over her bed, pillows, clothes, face, and hair. I was a little teensy bit upset about this. And very calmly told her that this was NEVER going to come out of her clothes. Her response was, "I think it will if we use oxy clean."
We don't even own a tv. Where did she get that?

Mahri! Don't freak out! I have something for you.

Love it.

Running woes

Just 5 days before my BIG race...ok, it's only a 5k, but it's BIG to me because it's going to be my FIRST RACE EVER! Anyway, just 5 days before (this would be just 2 days ago, Monday) I was working in the yard, in flip flops, and totally took a chunk out of my heel with the wheel barrow! NOOOOOO! I'm not being wimpy here, but it really hurt. I was planning on running Monday night but decided that my injury was just too great to even attempt running on. So last night I decided to go on a short run so I don't forget how to do it by Saturday. I put on a band aid, my running shoes, and limped out the door. Walking was KILLING me. How was I going to make it? But, I toughed it out and started running. And you know what? I couldn't feel a thing! It is a running miracle! Of course, I still kept it a short mile and a half run because, you know, I didn't want to push my luck, but it was a fantastic run! Now I know that I am ready. Injured and all, I'm doing this race. I can't wait!!

Green Smoothie Update

I just can't handle the idea of the green smoothie girl getting a bad name among the 5 people who read my blog, so I would like to put out a new post. She really has something great going here. Tonight we made a smoothie that is more like troll poop than the original ogre buggers we made last time. While both these names don't sound appealing at all, those are what we came up for the kids sake. This time we added mixed berries, and it tasted WAY better.

I made a green smoothie for the first time. (greensmoothiegirl.com) I want the kids to eat them, too, so I named it "Ogre Smoothie" to see if that would work. And it did. At first they were gulping it down and then as a little time went by, they decided it was disgusting. What? A 90% spinach smoothie doesn't appeal to a 3 and 5 year old? Weird. Maybe more fruit next time to ease them into it. In all reality, though, it wasn't bad. I think I could get used to them.On Saturday night I stayed up. And when I say 'stayed up' I mean I did not sleep one minute. I sewed and sewed until all my projects were done. I didn't think it was going to take me that long, but when 6:10am rolled around, I decided might as well just get in the shower. Maybe even make it to church on time. That didn't happen, but at least the girls looked super adorable in their new dresses, Josiah looked fantastic in his new tie, and I actually did my hair. Sorry, no pics of the latter two.Lucy and Josiah put this up in the big front window for all the world to see. When I saw it, all I could say is "Very appropriate." So we left it there for fair warning to anyone that might visit. After so many years of sleeping in their beds, Lucy and Josiah informed us that they were done! So, this is where we found them.

Spring?

At 11:30 tonight I had to make a walmart run. I opened the door and it was snowing! No! No! No! (that is me whimpering, not a temper tantrum) After a week of almost perfect spring weather, I don't know if my poor hot-weather-loving self can take it.

Short Strides

While running the other night I realized the reason I am such a slow runner is because I take short strides. I'm not really in good enough shape to change that very dramatically right now, but I'm working on it. Which got me thinking...I'm slow at cleaning my house too. And I'm slow at getting out the door, and at getting ready in the morning, and at teaching my kids, and at preparing lessons, and at preparing meals, and at just about everything else I can think of that I do in a day. So, maybe I'm just a short strides kind of girl. I don't think it is something to be ashamed of. Not something to celebrate. Just something to realize that that is who I am. While I know I should always strive to do a little better, I am glad to know that I can be me, short strides and all.

Mahri LOVES her vegetables...

...but that's not nearly as fun to post as this one! Mahri's first OREO!

Girls just wanna have fun!

While doing make-overs with Lucy (Lucy being the beautician) she was painting my nails, talking all perfectly gossipy, and then she grabbed a lip gloss and said 'I just tried this new product, and it is fabulous!'

Only in Idaho...or Ireland

On Friday the kids declared it 'go to work with daddy' day. Lucy had school, so Josiah took the morning shift. After picking Lucy up from school we headed off to Daddy's office. But we were stopped for a short and entertaining break. You see, just ahead of us was a gigantic group of sheep being herded down the road. In the middle of the road. I can honestly say I love that part of living here. No one was honking to get them to hurry up or get out of the way. I didn't see anyone pull a weapon from road (or sheep) rage. In fact, even after they were out of the (very main) highway, it seemed to slow us all down. We took a deep breath to remember that we don't have to be in a hurry all our life. We were reminded to stop and watch the sheep go by.

Lucy

Our neighbors across the street are getting their tree trimmed. Lucy was watching out the window and thought the workers looked thirsty. So, she got 2 big cups of ice water, went out the door, looked both ways before crossing the street, and took the very thirsty workers some nice refreshment. Where did she get her thoughtfulness from??? What a sweet girl!
